We are nearing the end of crisis
GREAT news about the Pfizer vaccine – 95 per cent effective, even in oldies. It’s been approved by the meticulous medicines regulator and will roll out next week. I’ll be the first in line.
I’ve heard comments from people saying the vaccine has been developed too quickly and approved for use at such speed that it can’t be safe.
I’m glad to say that’s nonsense. All three of the vaccines in the pipeline have gone through the same comprehensive, methodical checks and balances any vaccine normally goes through. I have faith in our scientists.
The reasons scientists have been able to develop vaccines so quickly are because of collaboration on a global scale, sharing information, pulling out all the stops and working in unison as never before.
Not a single corner has been cut.
As for the medicines regulators, they’re entirely trustworthy. They’re detailed, nit-picking, demanding and insistently careful. I have worked with them in the past and know them first hand to be utterly reliable when it comes to the safety and effectiveness of any new medical medicine.
Don’t be put off by the conspiracists who would have you believe Covid vaccines are not as thoroughly checked as possible. They are.
They’re also sterile. This means they can’t have been interfered with. When the vaccine is available, please have it. If we all do that it will stop Covid dead in its tracks.
It could be the beginning of the end.
