Lenny warns Milan clash is no day trip for his Celts

- BY CRAIG SWAN

NEIL LENNON insists Celtic can’t afford to simply dismiss an outing at the San Siro.

The Parkhead boss has confirmed he’ll take a strong team into battle against AC Milan with nothing to lose.

With Europa League qualification hopes gone, there is a strong argument to suggest Sunday’s Premiership match against St Johnstone carries more significance than tonight’s Italian contest.

But Lennon isn’t prepared to cast it aside and hopes a result against Stefano Pioli’s men provides a springboard for his troops’ recovery.

He said: “I want us to perform and have that belief and energy and go to the San Siro with nothing to lose. I want us to take the shackles off and play like we can.

“It’s a game of great significance and we want to do the fixture justice and come away with a result.

“We will make a couple of changes from the weekend but they won’t be wholesale.”

Lennon, meanwhile, has confirmed that he’s assessing January transfer targets.

He said: “We’ve identified areas where we want to add and we are working away in the background on that.

“Hopefully, we’ll get a bit of business done that freshens things up and adds a bit of quality to the squad.”

Lennon is planning to take Celtic away to a camp after the January 2 Old Firm clash.

He said: “We have a really heavy month coming up now. There are a lot of games and it will be good for the players to get a change of scene.

“We’re looking to just go away for five or six days for a bit of winter training.

“It’s not a winter break but hopefully we can get some benefit from that.”

Celtic have a free midweek in a fortnight during the Betfred Cup quarter-finals, leaving room for one of their games in hand against Aberdeen.

But Lennon said: “Adding another game at this stage would probably be too much of an ask for the players.”
