SEX TAPE PERVERT LEFT HIS VICTIM SUICIDAL

Man who shared ‘intimate’ footage of student, 19, avoids prison term

- BY GORDON CURRIE

A MAN who left a teenage student feeling “suicidal” after he posted a video of them having sex on social media escaped a jail sentence.

Louis George, 21, of Castle View, Letham, Angus, was found guilty after trial of sending two video recordings of the student, who was 19, in an “intimate situation” with him at his then home on November 2, 2018.

The charge indicated he “intended to cause her – or he was reckless as to whether she would be caused – fear, alarm or distress”, contrary to the 2016 Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act. He was also convicted of a sexual assault carried out on the woman at his home in Tweedsmuir Road.

The victim later discovered that George had sent several people video footage of them having sex.

George was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work as a “direct alternative” to custody and his name was added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for 12 months.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Gillian Wade told him: “I heard the trial and whi l e there were significant parts of the libel which were removed for legal reasons, it was obviously a very distressing incident for the complainer. People of your age don’t realise the power of social media and the damage it can cause.”

Sherif f Wade said being convicted of a sexual offence was “a very serious matter and can attract a significant sentence.” But she took into account his age, his lack of previous convictions and that he had stayed out of further trouble.

She added: “It’s hoped you will have a wholly different attitude to sexual relationships in the future and have more respect for women.”
