THEATRE nurse Issy Jackson will hang up her theatre scrubs for the last time this week, aged 72.

Her training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary began just three days before England won the World Cup in 1966 and 54 years later she is finally ending her long shift.

However, as our picture shows, Issy was already getting ready for a lifetime in the profession at the tender age of four. The dedicated nurse, who lives in Banknock, near Falkirk, spent her entire career at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

She said: “It is a very special place. I’ve never wanted to work anywhere else.

“I never cease to be amazed at the skill of the surgeons and the team and camaraderie is second to none. I AMBITION Issy, aged 4, plays in nurse’s outfit can honestly say I have learned something new every day.” Because of her age, Issy spent the first months of the pandemic self-isolating but she has been back at work since August. She said: “I feel it’s time for me to retire as I’m slowing down a bit. “I must have walked thousands of miles round the Royal over the years. In theatre you need to be quick to respond so, yes, it is time for me to take a break now.”

For the past three decades, Issy has worked nightshift. She added: “I have made so many friends through nursing. People often say I don’t sound 72. It must be my younger colleagues, hearing all their chat keeps me informed.”

NHSGGC’s North director Isobel Neil said: “It is said that nursing is a vocation and not a job and Issy is a wonderful example of that. She will be truly missed.”
