Kane: I’m still gutted not to win

-

CH CHRIS KANE was thrilled to bre break his Old Firm duck – but gu gutted not to be leaving Celtic Park with all three points.

The St Johnstone ace pounced with 11 minutes to go before the Hoops salvaged a point. And Kane said: “I’d been saying to my mates I hadn’t scored sco against either side of the Old Firm. So I’m absolutely delighted to get my first one against Celtic.

“It’s just unfortunate we weren’t able to get all three points. But we came here to try to get a positive result and a draw isn’t too bad.

“With the way we’re playing we’re looking at every game believing there are points there for us.

“Our defence has been strong all season but the gaffer has got us playing in a really positive way. We’re getting goals all over the pitch too.

“For my goal Stevie May did brilliantly to set me up. I just had to get into the right area and he did the rest by putting the ball right onto my foot.”

Saints gaffer Callum Davidson hailed his men as they made it 11 games unbeaten.

He said: “To get a point is bittersweet after we go 1-0 up. But I’ll take a point at Parkhead.

“Celtic have top-class players but it was about how we applied ourselves. It was about how we set up, how our application and structure was. And we applied ourselves brilliantly.

“Our goalkeeper Zander Clark made some big saves. But it’s testament to the team they’ve played so well and carried out everything we asked of them.

“Shaun Rooney was excellent, playing in a different position to what he’s used to.

“The good thing about not losing is you can build the belief. Against Motherwell last week we were 1-0 down and came back to win. The players understand what they’re doing and hopefully we can turn the draws into wins.”
