Archer: Well start my No.1 ambition
JORDAN ARCHER insists he’s up for a fight to claim a starting spot at Motherwell.
The former Tottenham and Millwall keeper made his debut in the defeat by Hibs that left him far from downhearted.
After signing a shortterm deal until January as emergency cover for the injured Trevor Carson, the Archer is also determined to reclaim the form that earned him a Scotland cap against Peru two years ago.
He said: “It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been involved with Scotland, I’m happy now to find a club and a gaffer that has given me the opportunity to get some games.
“That’s always my aim, to get back to that level. Once you’ve been in a squad and played some games that you want to get involved again.
“From the day I started kicking a ball I’ve always backed my own ability. I train hard every day and I try to make as many saves as possible to help the boys in front of me and give the gaffer a decision to make come match day when he picks the team.
“There’s some fantastic keepers at the club, there’s always competition and Craig Hinchliffe’s training is second to none.
“To be signed and have the backing of a manager and goalkeeping coach helps my confidence.”
Archer’s experience will provide more than able cover for Well as Carson continues his recovery from knee surgery.
He said: “I’m not too fussed about my own performance, we’ve come away without any points.
“It’s a difficult one to take when you look at the scoreline against Hibs but I don’t think it was a 3-0 game. We were unlucky with some of the decisions.”
