Lewis also fancies a Firm split

- Fraser Wilson

JOE LEWIS backed Andy Considine’s target of splitting the Old Firm and snatching a Champions League spot – despite Aberdeen chucking away another two points.

Dons defender Considine set the bar high with his ambitious claim and skipper Lewis reckons he was bang on the money even though another chance to draw level with Celtic was missed.

Aberdeen were second best to Saints for the majority of the draw but asked if he agreed with Considine, Lewis said: “Yes it has to be the aim. We have to try to push on in the league.

“We take it game by game and don’t necessarily look at other teams. It’s been a disappointing couple of results. Rangers, then Hamilton, now here. It happens. Teams go through ups and down and I don’t think the boys feel they are lacking in confidence.

“You just have to work hard, make sure you don’t get too low when the lows come and don’t get carried away when the highs come.”

Lewis joined the growing list of protesters against the new handball law after Aberdeen paid the penalty in Paisley.

The No.1 insists nobody would bat an eyelid if refs played on in situations such as Saturday when Tommie Hoban was penalised for handling Jon Obika’s flick.

He said: “It’s incredibly harsh. I spoke to the referee and he said they are told to give them. But if they don’t give them then I don’t think anyone brings any attention to it.

“Tommie is a yard away from the ball, his hand is down by his side and he is actually trying to move it out the way. I don’t know what else he can do.”
