Duffy stays equal to the Blues’ task

-

NEWLY-CROWNED player of the month Darryl Duffy had an eventful afternoon as Stranraer and his former side Stirling Albion shared the spoils.

Thomas Orr had already put the Blues in front after Cameron Binnie failed to hold onto Ruari Paton’s drive.

But the visitors got back into the game when Duffy was penalised for a high foot on Kieran Moore.

Andy Ryan scored from the spot before Connor McManus deflected David Wilson’s long-range effort beyond Greg Fleming.

But Duffy went on to equalise and stretch his impressive run of form to five goals in five games.

He said: “It is a nice wee streak. Strikers tend to go through purple patches.

“You need to enjoy them because you never know when it is going to stop or you hit a wee dry patch.

“You enjoy it for as long as you can and hopefully this one can keep going.”

The 2-2 draw extended Stranraer’s unbeaten run to four games. The Blues were thumped 4-1 on the opening day against Elgin before drawing with Annan and losing to Queen’s Park.

But a home win over Cowdenbeath set them on the right track.

Duffy said: “It is always nice to receive individual things but what is more pleasing is the upturn in form in the whole team.

“We’re looking solid at the back, good in midfield and are scoring goals up front. We’re optimistic.”

Leaders Queen’s Park beat Cowdenbeath 3-0 for their first win at Central Park since 2008. Peter Grant headed in on 16 minutes and Grant Gillespie’s low drive was deflected in 13 minutes into the restart with substitute Simon Murray notching in injury time.

Russell Dingwall’s 25 yard free-kick secured Elgin’s 1-0 win over Annan.

Liam Henderson converted two Craig Thomson deliveries as Edinburgh City beat Albion Rovers 5-2. He completed his hat-trick in the 16th minute by nodding in a Thomson corner after Kyle Docherty pulled one back.

Two minutes later Thomson cracked home a free-kick. Rovers’ Matty Aitken then fired home – only for Thomson to convert another free-kick.

Stenhousemuir beat Brechin 2-1 after first-half goals from Andy Munro and Mark McGuigan with a trialist pulling a goal back.
