A POPulAR TV presenter and figure in Scotland’s music industry has been found dead at his home. Ewan Macleod, a DJ who helped launch a hit radio venture backed by Rangers legend Ally McCoist, died suddenly in Bearsden, Dunbartonshire, on Thursday. Figures from the industry were yesterday mourning the loss of the 4848-yearyear-old, saying his life’slife’s goal had been to “put Scotland on the map” for its music.

The former London talent scout moved back to Glasgow to present STV’s Chart Bite music programme in the mid-90s.

He went on to become a music correspondent for our sister paper the Sunday Mail and continued to promote and present while helping set up the Beat 106 radio station.

Ewan was alsalso a manager for a record labellabe and tried to launch The ScottiScottish Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame museum.muse In 2011, he told the Record he was aiming to create the “ultimaultimate rock ’n’ roll fantasy”. fanta But B despite stars including in Annie Lennox and Midge Ure backing the £6million venture, it failed to secure the funds it needed.

Donald MacLeod, who owns The Garage and Cathouse nightclubs in Glasgow, paid tribute to his friend last night. He said: “Ewan was one of Scotland’s glitterati and played that part in full with some of his mad outfits.

“He was a character and if there was an event on he would be there.

“He was very much part of the contemporary music scene back in the day. It’s a tragedy and my condolences go out to his family.

“Scottish music’s community at large will miss Ewan. He tried very hard to put Scotland’s music scene on the map.”

A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a 48-year-old man at a property in Bearsden around 10.30am on Thursday. The death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious.”
