Den bigots have put a dent in new reputation

- BY FRASER WILSON

JORDAN ARCHER never personally encountered the ugly side of the Millwall support during four years with the London club.

But he admits the shocking scenes at The Den earlier this month – when home fans booed players taking the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter campaign – made him wince.

Despite being over 400 miles away in Motherwell the big keeper admits it was a difficult moment seeing and hearing sections of his old support tarnishing the anti-racism message.

Archer played 166 times for the Lions before his career moved on to Oxford, Fulham and now Well where he is preparing for his first taste of Ibrox this afternoon.

And he fears the shameful scenes will deter some players moving to Millwall.

He said: “I never had anything personally and when I saw them booing I was a bit let down.

“The vast majority of fans are fantastic but there is a

DISGUTED Jordan Archer small bunch that let the rest of the supporters down.

“It was difficult to see them booing taking the knee. It is a family club believe it or not. Staff behind the scenes make sure that the match-day experience is good for everyone.

“A few years ago they won the family club of the year. Unfortunately you have a few idiots who go to games.

“When that stadium’s rocking it has a fantastic atmosphere but you can’t condone that behaviour.

“Whether it deters players going there, it probably would. You don’t want to be a part of that. That small minority are letting down the vast majority of others.”

Archer’s short-term deal is up in January and the keeper, 27, said: “I haven’t looked into my own situation as we have a busy period coming up.

“I have to keep training hard and playing well and when the time comes we’ll cross that bridge.”
