HESHOULD’VE HIT A TREBLE

-

their title battle. Griffiths added to David Turnbull’s opener as Lennon’s men took care of basement-side Ross County.

The Parkhead boss handed his attacker a first Premiership start of the campaign and got the pay-off with his secondhalf header, but admits the striker could have had a treble having missed two golden opportunities beforehand.

Lennon said: “The minutes will do Leigh a lot of good and he scored a great header. It was probably the hardest chance of them all. He should have had a hat-trick.

“He got better as the game went on, his movement was really good and he scores great goals.

“Griff needs to get sharper and he’ll say ‘Well, you need to play me’.

“I think the more he plays and stays fit he’ll be an asset for us going forward.”

Turnbull’s second goal for the club laid the platform for the win and Lennon believes his team are gearing up to give someone a hiding.

The boss, who confirmed skipper Scott Brown and defender Shane Duffy should return from injury for Saturday’s game at Hamilton, continued: “David’s was a great goal. “Jerry [Frimpong] did very well to pick DavDavid out and he has the knacknack of being in the right place at the right time.

“Overall he had another a very good performance. p I am delighted de with him.

“Jerry was also a real re plus and [Diego] Laxalt La was very good for us. The two centre cen halves also played pla really well and I am happy with the clean clea sheet.

“Odsonne [EdoEdouard] should have scored scor too and we missed miss some chances to rarack up a really good scoreline. score The quality of the cchances we made really pleased me. We should have won the game by more.

“If we keep playing like that we’re going to give somebody a right good going over.

“It was a clean sheet and we didn’t look in any trouble. We missed some great chances and the quality of what we created was high.

“I am delighted, though. It was a good performance. Overall I am really pleased and it’s a step in the right direction.

“We got a lift from the weekend win and that pressure and anxiety has gone now. We are looking forward to the league games now and it’s good to get a win to start the Christmas period.

“There is a feelgood factor. We just want to keep the squad bubbling over now. We are still a long way back and we won’t get too high or too low.

“It’s a game at a time but we are taking steps in the right direction.”

While Lennon was thrilled, it was a tough start in the job for County boss John Hughes, in charge for the first time since replacing Stuart Kettlewell.

Yogi said: “In terms of quality, I’m honest enough to say it has to be better, our ball retention has to be better. The goals we lost were preventable, but I saw a togetherness.

“There’s enough there for me to know if we get a bit of luck we could be all right.

“Celtic is not our challenge. Our challenge is in the bottom half of the league beating the teams around us.”
