I THOUGHT I’D SEEN MY LAST XMAS

a CYstIC fibrosis patient has celebrated a special Christmas with her family after a miracle drug transformed her health.

Hailey Mann, who was saved by a Record campaign, didn’t think she’d see another Christmas after being told to make end-of-life plans.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a footballer who lost his life in a car crash on Christmas Eve.

Jim O’Donnell, 29, known as Jad, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident on the Isle of Harris.

It happened along the A859 south of Ardhasaig at about 9.05am on Thursday.

Heartbroken friends fondly remembered the Lochs FC striker and fish farm worker.

Angus ( Te d d y ) Mackenzie, chairman of Stornoway Sea Angling Club, wrote on the club’s Facebook page: “The Sea Ang l i ng Club was devastated to learn of the tragic death of former worker, member and friend of the club, Jim O’Donnell.

“Jim was a classic wind- up merchant, a lovable rogue, who often drove me up the wall – but just at the point of being thrown out of the club, he would turn round and ask, ‘Angie, give me a cuddle’, and everything was all right again. I’m going to miss his cuddles.

“On behalf of the club – committee, members and staff – we send our sincere condolences to Jim’s parents Joanne and Big Jim, his brothers Derek and Andy, their wives, and extended family and friends.”

A friend posted on social media: “You were such a good pal to me and always will be. You made me feel so welcome in Stornoway, we had such great times and always had a laugh.”

Another pal wrote: “Best striker I played with. RIP lad, fly high x.”

Police said inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
