POOCH PERFECT BBC1, 8pm

OH, how we Brits love our dogs. Even more so during lockdown, when getting out for a walk is the highlight of the day.

This new series, presented by self-confessed crazy dog lady Sheridan Smith, celebrates our pampered pooches in all their growly glory.

Sheridan and her canine co-presenter Stanley are on a mission to find the nation’s top dog groomer, who must compete in a series of challenges to show they’re the best in the business when it comes to scissors and clippers. Sounds a bit bonkers, right?

K9 CUDDLES about dog Dog gets a teddy grooming in a bear-style trim primetime BBC1 slot. Presumably, they’re thinking this could be the latest in a long-line of amateur competition talent shows that the nation holds close to its heart, like Bake Off, Sewing Bee or Pottery Throw Down. The Great British Bitch Chop? In this first heat, the four groomers’ first trans-fur-mation challenge is to tackle the long-haired shih tzu – and for us viewers the tricky bit seems to be figuring out which end is which, as some of those dogs seem to have no face. Then the contestants’ next quest is to give four curly-coated canines a cute teddy bear-style trim, before parading them down the dog walk in front of their owners. The owners will either be howling or growling, that’s for sure.
