Friend hails wife killer’s appeal ban

Pal’s relief as ex-cop stays behind bars

A FRIEND of wife killer Keith Farquharson’s victim has welcomed his appeal being thrown out – saying she was left “shaken” by the bid.

Retired police inspector Farquharson is serving a life sentence for choking and smothering his wife of 33 years, Alice, at their home in Angusfield Avenue, Aberdeen, in August 2019.

He was told he’d have to spend 15 years behind bars before he could have the chance of parole for murdering the mum of three.

Lawyers appealed his conviction, arguing the killer had suffered a miscarriage of justice.

But this has now been rejected and he will remain behind bars.

Jennifer Stewart was a close friend of Alice and also serves as a local councillor for the area.

She told the Record that family and friends of Alice were relieved that Farquharson would not be allowed to walk free. She said: “I’m aware of the appeal and the decision and I have to say I think the court has made the right one.

“Obviously, 18 months on, the feeling is still the same and people have been quite shaken that an appeal was put forward.

“He killed his wife and that is that. I don’t think he should be free and I don’t think anyone else does either.”

Jennifer said the memory of her friend still haunted her as she carried out duties for the council.

She said: “Every time I drive down Angusfield Avenue, I’m reminded of her and she will always be in my heart and so many other people’s.

“Alice will never be forgotten. She was a wonderful friend and mother. Nobody could ever deserve what happened to her, it was beyond words.”
