Deans: We are all fed up being the Fal guys
FALKIRK have blasted Scottish football chiefs for putting them into cold storage without warning – and vowed to lead the fight for change in our game.
The Bairns were furious when the SPFL and SFA announced on Monday that all football below Championship level was to stop as a new strain of Covid sweeps the country.
Now fuming Falkirk chairman Gary Deans has called for change as he aimed both barrels at the Hampden hierarchy.
He said: “Yet again Scottish football has proven itself unable to deal with undoubtedly difficult circumstances.
“On Monday we received a communication from the SFA and SPFL notifying us of their decision to suspend all football below Championship level.
“There was no pr i o r consultation and quite frankly, our staff and supporters deserve greater respect from Scottish football’s decision makers who threaten their livelihoods and our club with decisions we believe are ill-thought through and poorly communicated.
“Football has been granted unique concessions and we are all aware of recent failures.
“Unfortunately, only some clubs (namely those outside the SPFL) have been made to carry the can for those failings, whilst those in the upper reaches have been allowed to continue on top of having been rewarded disproportionately with Scottish Government funding.
“The unfairness, inconsistency and double standards on display is there for everyone to see.
“Change is urgently required and we’re ready to play a leading role in the much-needed reform.”
