Luke who’s back? Scot cleared for comeback

-

LUKE TRAYNOR has been cleared to return to athletics after having his drugs ban slashed from two years to just three months.

The 27-year-old Scots runner had confessed to a “stupid and uncharacteristic mistake” after a doping test in May 2019 found he had taken cocaine.

It saw the Great Britain international suspended from sport after a hearing last year, which deemed his ineligibility had started in May 2019 and would run until May 2021.

But Traynor, UK AntiDoping have announced, is among seven athletes from various sports given an immediate green light to resume their careers.

It comes under changes to the World Anti-Doping Code that cover the use of recreational drugs when detected in out-ofcompetition testing and which proved to be “in a context unrelated to sport performance”, seeing bans cut to three months.

Having already served more than 19 months of his, Traynor is free to return.

He said: “I knew the code change was coming in on January 1.

“But UKAD did not have to acknowledge it for past cases so it’s a nice surprise. Time to move forward.” CRICKET: Dom Bess cashed in on some abject batting to spin England towards glory on the first day of their Sri Lanka tour in Galle.

The 23-year-old posted career-best figures of 5-30 as Sri Lanka were dismissed for just 135 inside 47 overs, the lowest first innings score at the ground. By the close of day one England were eight behind on 127-2. AUTO: Charles Leclerc has tested positive for Covid19 and is self-isolating at home in Monaco with mild symptoms.

The Ferrari driver did not say where he might have contracted the virus but was in Dubai this month.

He is the fifth F1 driver known to have tested positive after Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll.
