Dyer: Hibs had every right to call for testing

- BY DaViD MCcaRTHy

ALEX DYER admits he had total sympathy with Hibs after their appeal for Celtic to undergo Covid tests on Monday was turned down.

Celtic returned from Dubai with centre-back Christopher Jullien testing positive, forcing 16 players and staff into self-isolation.

But Hibs said they were warned by the SPFL they had to play or face “severe consequences”.

Kilmarnock boss Dyer insists Jack Ross was within his rights to ask and admits Hibs seem to have got through the 90 minutes without any of their players being adversely affected.

Asked if he had sympathy for Hibs, he said: “One hundred per cent. Any manager or club would want that. Your first thoughts are your players and staff and to make sure when you go to another ground you are safe.

“If you are playing a team who have been away and had a Covid positive, you would be worried. Thankfully the game went on and as far as I know everyone is healthy and they are ready to play us on Saturday.”

Killie go into the match in good form with seven points from their last three games, having slumped to five straight losses before the turnaround.

Dyer said: “It is just hard work, some good fortune and taking the chances that come your way.

“I don’t get carried away if we are unbeaten in three and I don’t get too down if we lose four or five.

“The players have to keep doing the same things and keep doing their best, then you can’t ask for any more.

“If the players believe in you and you believe in them, then you have a chance. I certainly believe in them and they believe in me.

“In this league you can go three unbeaten and then lose three – it is just the way this league is.

“You have to stay levelheaded and keep plugging away. Hopefully we’ll get the results and end up where we think we should be.”
