A Supra boost for Toyota’s GR sporty coupe

- By Chris Russon

TOYOTA is expanding its GR Supra performance coupe line-up with the introduction of a 2.0-litre model.

Priced from £45,995, it is almost £10,000 less than the 3.0-litre version introduced in 2019. The smaller engine develops 254bhp and is 100 kilos lighter than the 3.0-litre model, which Toyota says bolsters its dynamic qualities.

Performance is 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds, compared with 4.3 seconds for the 3.0-litre Supra, but both have top speeds of 155mph.

Fuel economy for the 2.0-litre is rated at 38.7mpg, with emissions of 167g/km and that compares to 34.4mpg on average for the 3.0-litre. Both use an eight-speed ZF auto gearbox and, like the bigger-engined version, the new Supra has an active differential as standard kit.

Other features include adaptive variable suspension, a sports-tuned power steering set-up and high-performance Brembo brakes for added stopping power.

Toyota says that the more compact engine means the car’s mass is located closer to the centre of the body, improving inertia characteristics and making ideal 50:50 front/rear weight balance easier to achieve.

Initially, the GR Supra 2.0-litre will also be available in a special Fuji Speedway edition limited to 45 models in the UK priced from £47,395.

That comes with a special paint finish, matt black alloys and red door mirrors with red leather and black Alcantara upholstery in line with the Toyota Gazoo Racing livery.

The standard GR Supra comes in Pro specification, which includes 18in alloy wheels, an 8.8in multimedia display and Alcantara seat upholstery.
