Party tunes tell me it’s the weekend

-

SINGER Beverley, whose hits include Greatest Day and Get Up!, lives in London with husband James O’Keefe and their dog, Zain. The 47-year-old likes to spend her weekends reading and cooking up a storm.

TWENTY years ago, weekends tended to be about going out. But these days they’re all about relaxing and spending time with James and our dog, Zain.

On Friday, the minute I hear all the old-school party tunes, it makes me think it’s the weekend.

James and I always have fish on Fridays. I don’t drink alcohol, so we’ll have a cup of tea and a cosy night in with a film. On Saturdays, if I’m not travelling to a gig, we’ll get up early and have a light breakfast.

I’ll work out while James takes Zain for a walk. Afterwards, I’ll go and find them in the park and catch up.

Saturday evening is all about cooking. I’m usually the sous chef, as James is a better cook. But I’m from a West Indian background and I’ve introduced James to the culinary delights of Jamaican cuisine.

James is used to going to bed early and getting up early for work, whereas I’m used to going on stage at 9pm and just getting going. So he might slink off to bed while I watch a horror film.

On Sundays, if I’m not working, we’ll take Zain over to Hampstead Heath together.

Then we’ll head home and cook a healthy roast (or unhealthy, if our friends are involved) before chilling out on the sofa ahead of a busy week. ● Beverley features on the soundtrack for The Loss Adjuster, which is on DVD and on-demand.
