Bosses won’t delay Harry & Meg show

- BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN

PRODUCERS of Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey are refusing to pull the tell-all chat irrespective of Prince’s Philip’s condition.

TV bosses’ refusal has the potential to detonate a “diplomatic bomb” if the Duke of Edinburgh’s health worsens, an insider said.

It is not known whether Harry, 36, has made appeals to Winfrey or makers CBS to postpone its airing due to the health of his 99-year-old grandfather, who had to be moved to a different hospital yesterday.

The first look at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview came in a teaser trailer broadcast on Sunday night during the US TV show 60 Minutes.

In the trailer, Oprah is seen telling Meghan: “You’ve said some pretty shocking things here.”

She later asks: “Were you silent or were you silenced?”

The excerpt has created fears in royal circles over how far the couple may have gone.

Oprah, 67, also says to Meghan, 39, that her situation was “almost unsurvivable... sounds like there was a breaking point”.

Harry sits with his pregnant wife in the garden of their £11million Montecito home in California.

The Duke, while holding his wife’s hand, is heard claiming he emigrated to LA with his family because he feared “history repeating itself” after the death of his mother, Princess Diana. He says: “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago. “Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we had each other.” At no point in the trailer does Meghan, who is seen cradling her bump while wearing a £3400 Armani dress and a bracelet belonging to Diana, speak other than to say “yeah”. Meghan and Harry have individual interviews with the chat show host, who attended the couple’s May 2018 wedding at Windsor Castle, and then joint one.

A TV insider said on the question of postponing: “CBS has sold millions of dollars worth of advertising around the interview but bosses are aware of the delicacy of the Duke’s heath.”

They added: “They have no loyalty to the Royal Family, although some feel as though they do to Harry and Meghan.

“For it to run if Philip’s condition worsened would be like setting off a diplomatic bomb. It would be grossly insensitive and hugely disrespectful.”

No one from CBS was last night available to comment.
