THIS week marks Scottish Apprenticeship Week, an annual event highlighting the great things that happen when employers back our talented young people through apprenticeships.
As part of this, the Scottish Apprenticeships Awards take place on Thursday, demonstrating the value that apprenticeships bring to individuals, businesses and our economy.
You can register to attend the 7pm virtual ceremony by visiting apprenticeships.scot/ awards.
The awards recognise the achievements of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices working in a range of sectors and, here, we showcase the inspiring apprentices and apprentice ambassadors who have been achieving great things throughout the pandemic. productivity, improving staff retention and injecting new skills into the workforce.
The Scottish Government’s economic plans have put apprenticeships at the heart of recovery from the pandemic, both for businesses and young people. In particular, the Scottish Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee ensures training, work, or an apprenticeship.
Skills Development Scotland has introduced the Apprenticeship Employer Grant, available until March 25. The funding offers up to £5000 for businesses to take on a new recruit or upskill an existing employee, who has been in a new role in the last four months, through an apprenticeship.
In addition, the financial contribution received by employers who take on a redundant apprentice through the Adopt an Apprentice scheme has increased from £2000 to £5000.
For apprentices who have been affected by redundancy, there is also greater support available to help them complete their qualifications and apprenticeship.
David played a key role in the upgrade of a crucial companywide software system.
