Pep’s City are just too busy to party

- BY CARL ASKEW

PEP GUARDIOLA claims Manchester City have no time to enjoy being record breakers.

The Premier League leaders have won their last 20 matches in all competitions, a new record for an English top-flight side.

It is also the third best winning sequence across Europe’s recognised ‘top five’ leagues, behind only the 23 in a row notched up by Bayern Munich last year and Real Madrid’s 22 successive wins in 2014.

Yet with City chasing glory on four fronts this season, Guardiola says he cannot take it in just now.

He said: “We don’t have

time. There’s many games, every three days, so we have to rest and think of the next one.

“We are delighted with what we have done so far, we cannot deny it. If no team has done it before it means how difficult it is.

“But, at the end, what counts is if you lift trophies or not. Still we can’t sit down on the sofa and say how good everything is.”

Wolves beat City twice last term and Guardiola remains wary.

He said: “The history against them shows us how tough it is.”

STUART FINDLAY is hoping his switch to the MLS will boost his Scotland prospects – not hamper them.

The former Kilmarnock defender sealed his move to Philadelphia Union last Thursday for an undisclosed free, inking an initial two-year deal.

Findlay’s first priority is to become a regular in Jim Curtin’s side when the new campaign begins next month.

But the 25-year-old is also desperate to build on the solitary cap he has after making a scoring debut in a 2019 victory over San Marino.

The Scot reckons countryman Johnny Russell, who is starring for Sporting Kansas City, is proof that playing further afield will not damage his cap hopes.

Findlay, who has also joined compatriots Lewis Morgan and Danny

Wilson in the States, said: “I’ve had a few disgruntled supporters of other clubs saying I might have ruined my Scotland chances by going out there but you look at the players who have played out there.

“Lewis is flying out there and Johnny has picked up many Scotland caps so it shows you there is a platform out there to play and grow.

“What I did at Kilmarnock with getting my Scotland cap, that was a really proud moment and I don’t think by any means I’m hindering my chances.”
