SCOTT WOULD BE PERFECT AS CELTS GAFFER

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

IN THE RUNNING Wagner is among a number on the shortlist with former Huddersfield boss David Wagner tipped for the job along with big hitters such as Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard and Steve Clarke.

But Frimpong reckons Celts could have the ideal candidate closer to home as the skipper is destined to end up in the dugout when he eventually hangs up his boots.

Brown’s contract is up at the end of the season and he has been told by outgoing chief executive Peter Lawwell there is a deal on the table to continue playing or move into coaching.

The 35-year-old has ruled out a short-term role on the backroom staff as his focus remains on completing the campaign and he has yet to make up his mind if he will call it a day.

Frimpong is adamant Brown has the tools to be successful as a gaffer and said: “If Scott wanted to be a manager, he’d be a great one.

“The way he speaks, the way he motivates the players. He knows a lot about the game and has been in the game a long time, so he’s experienced. He’d be a great manager.”

Frimpong hailed Brown for helping him settle and the full-back insisted the advice he got on the park was key to his development towards his big move to the Bundesliga.

The 19-year-old quadruple Treble winner said: “When I first came and played my first match he would tell me what I should do, what’s best for me in this position.

“He’d say, ‘Use your ability when you go forward and attack them, you’re the fastest in the league, they won’t catch you’, things like that.

“Defensively he would tell me as well, about my positioning and that I can’t always rely on my speed. If you put yourself in a better position then you don’t even have to use it.

“He’s more experienced and would give me little things like this. It really helped because look at where I am today. I’ll always be grateful.”

John Kennedy has stepped in as interim manager and Frimpong believes the club are in safe hands – and he would have no fears if the coach was made permanent manager either.

He said: “When I was there Kennedy was really good. He and Lennon were both good, so why not?”

Frimpong admitted he was devastated to see Lennon leave Celtic last week as the Parkhead club’s 10-in-a-Row hopes lie in ruins.

And he insisted some of the flak the outgoing boss took was unjustified, especially when you take in to account all that he’d achieved with the club.

Frimpong said: “Celtic in previous years would always win games but there was always going to be a point when they can’t win everything.

“There was always going to be a time where they’d have to lose. The criticism Neil was getting was a bit over the top.”

JEREMIE FRIMPONG insists Scott Brown is perfect Celtic manager material.

The former Hoops defender – who joined Bayer Leverkusen in a bumper £11.5million move in January – was gutted to see old gaffer

Neil Lennon depart Parkhead last week.

Celtic have started the search for a successor, with the long list of names in the frame growing by the day,
