- BY RECORD REPORTER

AN INVESTIGATION is under way after the wrong body was removed from a hospital for burial.

The error happened last month when a member of staff at Fosters Funeral Directors picked up the wrong body from a morgue at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

It is understood the deceased wasn’t taken to the company’s funeral parlour in the town.

When the mistake was discovered, Fosters returned the body to the hospital before collecting the correct body for burial preparation.

A spokesman for NHS Lanarkshire said a probe into the incident had begun.

Local MSP Linda Fabiani said she expected the health board to treat the matter with “sensitivity”.

THE heartbroken family of a 31-year-old dad have paid tribute to him after his body was discovered.

Jackson Mason, from Fenwick in Ayrshire, went missing 10 weeks ago but was found on Sunday at West Tannacrieff, near Kilmarnock.

His uncle, Allan Parris, wrote a heartfelt message on Facebook about his nephew. He said: “Jackson, when you walked into a room you would light it up.

“Your poor mum, son and two sisters loved you so much.

“You were a great boy who was adored and loved by hundreds. You were truly one of a kind and I am so proud to be called your uncle.”

A fundraiser has been launched to help his devastated family with funeral costs.

Garry Greig, who launched the appeal on Facebook, said: “The family have been through enough grief and hopefully this will take some pressure off them.”

A total of £2282 has been raised towards a £5000 target on the fundraising page, with more than 150 people making donations.
