“I’d never thought it was the right time or I was good enough to apply for the show but this year, because of Covid, I had a lot of free time so began creating more recipes for a food Instagram page I set up two years ago. “The page lifted off and I decided to apply for MasterChef, then forgot about it until they called me.” Although she’s been watching the show since she was little, Katy wasn’t flummoxed when she entered the famous MasterChef kitchen or when she met hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode.
She said: “I thought I would be really nervous meeting them and being in the kitchen but I’m actually more nervous knowing it’ll be on TV.
“I thought I’d be starstruck by Gregg and John but they are just two really nice, normal dudes.
“On and off the camera they were really calming and nice guys. The only thing that was difficult was being in an unknown environment and not knowing where everything was or how it worked.”
While she wants her food critiqued by people that aren’t her family or friends, Katy’s long-term dream, with her Insta page racking up the followers, would be to publish her own cook book and become a recipe developer.
One person already very happy is boyfriend Kyle, who was her official tester for the programme.

A MAN “you’d least suspect” is now being linked to two sex assaults five years ago by cops using DNA technology.
In one, a 19-year-old woman was attacked after she got off a bus in Edinburgh’s Lanark Road West after midnight on August 27, 2015, when a man approached her in the Newmills Road area and said he had a knife.
He then led her to a field, where she was raped. Before this, on
August 5, 2015, a woman, 21, was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted in Craiglockhart Quadrant, also in the city. She had got off a bus in Colinton Road just before the attack at 10.30pm.
The man responsible had not been on either bus.
In a plea for information,
Detective Inspector Jon Pleasance said: “We’re looking for the person you’d least suspect – someone you wouldn’t think is responsible for such horrific offences.
“Think back to the summer of 2015. Was there someone in your life acting different? Was their behaviour around this time unusual for them? Don’t dismiss your concerns, no matter how small they seem. We have a DNA profile of the person responsible and so can quickly rule people out.”
Cops are asking people to think back to August 2015 when the Fringe Festival was taking place.
