Rushing to return not good fit for managers

-

PETERHEAD manager Jim McInally and Cowdenbeath boss Gary Bollan have demanded assurances player welfare will be taken into account if Leagues One and Two restart in just 16 days.

Stenhousemuir chairman Iain McMenemy has said two weeks on Saturday was a target date but McInally and Bollan are concerned.

Their players have trained on their own for almost two months and McInally said: “I want to start back and so do our players but we have to ensure what we are asking them to do is possible.

“As part of the plans for coming out of the first lockdown for the start of this season the Scottish FA’s Chief Medical Consultant John MacLean said that it would take four to six weeks to get players match ready.

“March 20 is half of that time, so I have concerns. It would be great to get assurances from Dr MacLean that this is acceptable.”

Bollan added: “My concern is for the health of our players.

“Five or six sessions is very little when they have been off for two months.

“Everyone wants to be back but we must ensure that we are not going to cause problems to players by doing so too quickly.”
