STEVIE: I’M NOT WORRIED

-

topr-flight title in a decade. Gerrard had to watch the winner from the stand and is now sweating on further SFA action. But the Ibrox boss wasn’t concerned as he blasted the officials for missing the spot-kick and Beaton for snubbing him afterwards.

Gerrard’s blast was picked up Sky Sports TV microphones as he said: “So you’re not speaking to me? I know why you’re not speaking to me – because you were f ****** bang wrong. You’re bang out of order.”

He could now be in hot water with the SFA for the incident that doesn’t fall under the fast-track category but, despite the prospect of clinching the title at Parkhead on March 21, he isn’t concerned about being forced to sit in the stand.

Gerrard said: “If someone wants to stop me being on the side of a pitch, don’t worry – I’ll celebrate when the time comes. I’m not worried. I’m looking forward to beating St Mirren. That’s my only worry.

“It’s a blatant penalty, it’s a stonewaller. I’m someone who wants to support officials because we’re all human and we’ll make a mistake.

“But what I can’t stand for at this level is three people making the same mistake. They all had clear views of it. I could see it and I’m the furthest away.

“There are three officials at this level who all got it wrong together – I can’t have that. I asked for an explanation and he refused to speak to me.

“You are talking about officials at a top level of the game. I’ll go with one making a mistake because we’re all human. But I can’t have it when three make the same mistake and are all looking at the incident. That’s unfair.

“It’s not right, it’s not fair. It’s a stonewaller and it’s bang out of order.

“I’m entitled to a conversation but obviously not. We will definitely appeal it (the yellow card).” Gerrard was delighted Morelos had the last laugh with his 14th goal of the season to settle a stuffy encounter against the beaten Betfred Cup finalists.

He said: “Don’t worry about Alfredo, he has just scored the winner and is in there dancing around with no top on to Sweet Caroline.

“That’s what top strikers do, they are in the right place at the right time.

“I thought at one point it wasn’t going to be his night but, credit to him, he never gave up.

“The team showed really good patience. We stuck with it and we’ve shown all season we’re not going to go away. We are three points closer to where we want to be – we are so close now.

“We just need to win the next game, take maximum points and we’ll see what happens from there. We just need to keep winning.

“The game will come on us pretty fast. We’ll make a few changes for the weekend and we’ll get ready for St Mirren.

“We’ve shown all season we’ve evolved. We’re ready to compete and challenge. We’ve shown a tremendous level of consistency.

“We came here early in the season and played everything in front of Livingston. We didn’t have a cutting edge. We never asked enough questions. Tonight we did.

“I thought the game was going to go away from us and it would be two points dropped. But we got what we deserved.

“You can’t question the fight and spirit and determination to win games in this group now.”
