Carlo’s Toffees Rich in class in triumph

- BY ALAN MARSHALL

RICHARLISON bagged the winner as Everton continued their push for European football by overcoming struggling West Brom.

The Brazilian netted for the fourth league game in a row, heading home past keeper Sam Johnstone.

Sub Gylfi Sigurdsson delivered the cross, having only been on the pitch for 43 seconds.

The Baggies had been the better team in the first half and Mbaye Diagne thought he had grabbed a 93rd-minute equaliser when he controlled a pass and shot into the net.

But he was denied 0 1 because he was narrowly offside as VAR confirmed the on-field decision.

Toffees gaffer Carlo Ancelotti said: “It was difficult but the Premier League is like this.

“We’re doing well and now we’re in the fight at the top of the table.

“I’d like to say the season has been a fantastic one at the end of it all.”

Hawthorns boss Sam Allardyce said: “It is small moments that change the game. We start well then slip up and concede.”

RAITH have completed the pre-contract capture of James Keatings as boss John McGlynn continues planning for next season.

The Championship club have already sealed a deal that will see ex-Rangers defender Tom Lang join from Clyde this summer.

And McGlynn is thrilled to have lined up Inverness striker Keatings, who has agreed a two-year deal.

The Stark’s Park manager said: “We are delighted to have secured James’ services and look forward to working with him over the next two seasons.”

The 29-year-old is another piece of the jigsaw for Rovers, who sit second in their first season back in the Championship.

Deals with David McKay, Robbie Thomson, Dylan Tait and Ross Matthews have been agreed already.

But with Regan Hendry, Brad Spencer, Frankie Musonda, Dan Armstrong and Manny Duku all out of contract in the summer, McGlynn will be kept busy.

He said: “It’s an ongoing process. We’re evaluating our players, talking to them and at the same time recognising we have to look outside the squad to bring in other players.”
