STAY FOR CHAMPS LEAGUE

-

night before bagging the late winner which has left his club within four points of a first title in 10 years.

Rangers have appealed the yellow card shown by ref John Beaton and a fast-track tribunal will meet today to decide if it should be rescinded.

The striker also turned in a-manof-the-match display in last week’s Europa League routing of Royal Antwerp and Ferguson has urged him to ignore transfer talk this summer and make an even bigger name for himself in the showpiece event.

In his Record Sport column Ferguson said: “I know Gerrard joked that Morelos enjoys playing in the Europa League because he knows clubs from all the biggest leagues will be watching him. I also know that Rangers will need to sell one or two of their biggest assets to keep the club financially stable.

“But Morelos looks settled and highly motivated right now – I even saw a wee smile out of him the other night. I actually wonder if he’s already got one eye on making a mark on next season’s Champions League.

“He’s made a big impact in Europe already but the Champions League is really where players showcase what they’ve got. That’s the pinnacle.

“That’s exactly where Morelos will want to be performing. He’s about to have the chance to do it in a Rangers shirt next season and it could present him with the ideal platform to take his career to another stratosphere.

“I’d love to see him doing that next season under the floodlights on the greatest stage of them all.”

Meanwhile, veteran Steven Davis has praised Morelos for refusing to let his head go down against Livi.

The Northern Irishman reckons the frontman deserves credit for being in the right place at the right time to tap home.

Davis said: “He caused their defenders a lot of problems and everyone knows it was a penalty in the first half. For that to go against him and for him to keep his nerve and keep doing the right things, I am delighted for him to get the winner.”
