Son said he was dad on phone

-

IN AUGUST, we told how we taped phone calls with Whyte, who was passing himself off as his 74-year-old dad Tom. He told our undercover reporter he could kill off debts to creditors and allow businesses to still be able to trade as normal, all for about £5000. Our reporter recognised the voice on the phone instantly as Whyte, who sounds nothing like his elderly dad. Craig Whyte is banned from having a controlling influence in a UK company. Tom later claimed at a face-to-face meeting it was he who had earlier spoken to our man on the phone. But one of the UK’s top phonetic experts analysed the recordings and compared them with television interviews with Craig Whyte.

He agreed with our belief that the man doing the wheeling and dealing on the phone was Craig Whyte and not his dad.

And former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston, who had intense talks with Whyte as part of the power handover, said: “I listened and there’s absolutely no question that it’s definitely Craig Whyte.

“It was in how he said it, where he said it, in the form he did, his characterisations of everything, the way he highlights and fastfinishes sentences.

“Everything was Craig Whyte – it brought back horrible memories.”

PRINCE William and wife Kate have been thanked for helping set up a text helpline that stopped a 12-year-old boy taking his own life.

The boy’s parents told the royals how he contacted Shout 85258 – developed by the couple’s Royal Foundation – and a volunteer supported him before the boy rang the police for help.

In a video call, the boy’s father told William and Kate: “We know the conversation that Shout had with our son was enough to save his life. It was pivotal and that is amazing.” The parents, who have not been identified along with the boy, said their son is now doing well and looking forward to returning to school. William praised the family for sharing their experience. He said: “You guys doing this, talking about it like you are now, will make a huge difference and definitely save other people’s lives.”
