Yob soldier dodges jail over abuse

- BY RORY CASSIDY

A THUG former soldier who threatened to kill his ex has been spared prison over his sixth domestic abuse conviction.

Robert Campbell, 29, was given another chance by a judge this week over his latest clash with former girlfriend Bianca Johnson.

Campbell made calls to Bianca, 31, at her home in Gourock, Inverclyde, in February, shouting and swearing at her and threatening her with violence.

Campbell pled guilty at Greenock Sheriff Court last month but sentencing was adjourned for reports.

Sheriff Joseph Hughes yesterday placed Campbell on a community payback order – where he will be supervised for two years.

Campbell was jailed last year for threatening to kill Bianca.

A THIEF who hijacked a Royal Mail worker’s van then stole the employee’s car is being hunted by cops.

Police are probing the two connected incidents, which happened in Edinburgh’s Colinton area on Wednesday.

And they have warned couriers and delivery drivers to be vigilant while making deliveries.

A source said: “The thief took off with the female delivery driver’s van, and all the parcels, before going back for her own car.”

Police were called to Colinton Mains Terrace, close to the local post office, following the theft of the unmarked van.

It’s understood the driver was working for Royal Mail but not driving a branded vehicle. They believe the incident is linked to the theft of a black Honda Accord on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

It was taken from Royal Mail’s Dell Delivery Office in Gorgie Park Road.

Neither the van nor the car have been recovered and police have released a description of a suspect.

Chief Inspector Scott Richardson said: “We are keen to trace a man seen in the Colinton Mains Terrace area at about 1.50pm on Wednesday. He is white, about 30, with dark hair. He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up.

“We urge couriers in the Edinburgh area to remain vigilant and ensure they don’t leave their engine running or vehicles unlocked while making deliveries.”
