RANGERS may be on the verge of winning the title in just over 24 hours but those on the Hotline continue to look back in anger at events in Livingston on Wednesday.

Alfredo Morelos’ yellow card for diving and Steven Gerrard’s red for his reaction to it dominated calls and emails and, as usual, there was no shirking the issues.

John Scott, Grassmoor, got the ball rolling and said: “Yes, Rangers should have had a penalty.

“But there is a glaring double standard that is putting our officials under unacceptab­le pressure.

“Gerrard once claimed a Kilmarnock player went down as if diving into a pool after winning a penalty.

“Yet we’ve all read pundits who argue it’s acceptable to go down under the slightest touch.

“That’s why ref John Beaton and his assistant ultimately made the wrong decision.

“In this instance, we have a player caught out for diving on previous occasions casting doubt in the officials’ minds.

“Rid the game of cheating then there’s no element of doubt. It’s coached into young players to go down at the merest touch. That’s not an entitlemen­t, as Andy Walker once claimed. It’s cheating.”

Robert McEwan, Glasgow, said: “Morelos has only got himself to blame. His antics have caught up with him and even refs like Beaton have had enough.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, emailed: “I believe Beaton’s problem with Morelos dates back to an Old Firm game in 2019.

“The official had a shocker and I think he has been influenced since by the threats he received then, unfortunat­ely some were even death threats.
