The Last Word

- Graham Bell

What are your favourite shows?

Apart from sport, I like crime dramas. I loved David Tennant in Des. With lockdown we’ve been watching more films and a lot of old classics. I recently introduced my 21-year-old daughter Lottie to The Matrix. She’s at drama college and when she saw that slow motion scene with the bullets she said, “Oh that’s why people say things are like The Matrix!”

Do you and your family tend to watch the same things?

We do try. We’ve had more time together as a family and that’s been one of the really good things about lockdown. My son Louis is on furlough and Lottie is delaying going back to college, so we’ve been watching lots of things together.

Are you a binge-watcher?

I’m definitely a binge-watcher. When I was training for Dancing On Ice, I had to set myself a bedtime because my wife Sarah will stay up until 2am watching stuff and I’m like, ‘No, I’m going to bed!’

Is there anything you wouldn’t watch?

I’m not a big costume drama fan. That’s

pushing it for me and it’s just not my thing. When something like that gets put on, that’s when I go to bed.

Do you have a TV guilty pleasure?

I’ve started watching Cobra Kai on Netflix. It’s rubbish but I can’t stop watching it. The two actors who are in it were in the original The Karate Kid but they’ve grown up now.

What’s your favourite snack while you watch TV?

I try not to snack but over Christmas was bad. I try to avoid chocolate and go for things like tangerines and nuts because you have to work to get your food!

Was it an easy “yes” for you when it came to signing up for Dancing On Ice?

Yeah. My ski season got cut short in March last year and all the work I had in the summer just disappeared. I was supposed to be commentating in Tokyo for the Olympics. It was touch and go whether Ski Sunday would happen this winter and Dancing On Ice was a solid offer of work so I couldn’t turn it down. It’s such an amazing experience, it wasn’t just because it was money coming in! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something really special and be coached by an expert.

Do you still love presenting Ski Sunday as much as when you first started out?

‘ I couldn’t turn Dancing On Ice down – it was an amazing experience’

Yes, I’ve been working on it for almost 20 years now. I’m hoping next year everything will be back to normal and I can go to the races and do a course run. That’s what people like to see.
