Pupils may do self-testing

- BY PETER DAVIDSON

ALL secondary school pupils could be asked to self-test for coronavirus as fears grow of a potential spike in cases when children return to the classroom.

Primary 1 to 3 pupils returned a couple of weeks ago, while P4 to 7 will return on March 15.

There will be a phased return for secondary school children from the same date. However, following the Easter holidays, all pupils should be back to face-to-face learning.

At present, a small number of pupils in S4-S6 who attend school for practical work are offered kits to test themselves.

A Scottish Government spokesman said testing arrangements “are being kept under review”, adding: “Testing is targeted at where it is likely to be most effective.”

It comes as no new deaths were announced in the last 24-hour period. A total of 7421 people have died in Scotland after returning a positive test.

A PHOTO of Captain Sir Tom Moore is being sold to raise cash for the late fundraiser’s charity foundation.

The image – titled Nation’s Hero – was taken by photographer Gavin Bond for men’s magazine GQ.

Bond donated it to Sotheby’s Made in Britain auction. It has a £5000 sale estimate.

BRITISH-Iranian mum Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe “remains in harm’s way” in Iran after she was freed from a jail term yesterday, her husband warned.

The 42-year-old faces another court hearing on Sunday amid claims she could face a new charge.

Nazanin had been detained since her arrest in April 2016 over allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, which she vehemently denies.

Her husband Richard said “Nazanin is genuinely happy” to be free of her ankle tag.

But he added: “It feels to me like they have made one blockage just as they have removed another and we very clearly remain in the middle of this government game of chess.”
