Scotland is left out loop on catch-up

- BY STIAN ALEXANDER

SCOTS were left fuming as they couldn’t tune in to Oprah Winfrey’s TV chat show with Harry and Meghan on catch-up – but viewers in England could.

About 1.1million people in Scotland watched the interview when it was broadcast on ITV and STV on Monday night but those who missed it are unable to view it on the STV Player.

People around Britain can log on to the ITV Hub on their computers or TV but the platform is not available to viewers north of the Border.

Louise Scott, 46, an accounts boss from Edinburgh, missed the show on Monday as she was “super-busy” at work and expected to view it the following day – then found out she couldn’t.

After repeatedly trying to log on to watch it on her laptop, TV and iPad, a message flashed up on her screen that “due to rights restrictions” she, and the rest of Scotland, couldn’t watch it on catch-up.

Louise said: “It’s the same old nonsense – us Scots are treated like second-class citizens.”

She spoke to a friend in London, and another in Newcastle, who both logged on to watch the show on the ITV Hub or on their TVs.

Louise added: “Everyone in England can watch Harry and Meghan on Oprah, but not us. Are we not part of the UK? They are our duke and duchess as well.”

Builder David Greaves, from Glasgow, said it was a “disgrace” he couldn’t watch the show. He missed it on Monday as he was “still celebrating” Rangers’ league title success. David, 37, said: “I’ve looked everywhere online and can’t watch it anywhere. It’s very frustrating. It’s all anyone is talking about and I’ve not seen it.”

An STV spokesman said: “Those looking to watch on demand can do so via STV Player on Amazon Fire TV, Android, Freeview Play, Sky and Virgin. Due to rights restrictions, the programme is unavailable to stream on other STV Player platforms.”
