STEVIE WILL BE ANFIELD BOSS - JUST NOT YET

-

STEVEN GERRARD’S former Liverpool team-mate Glen Johnson is convinced the Rangers boss will be the next manager at Anfield.

But the ex-England right-back reckons it won’t be anytime soon, despite speculation over Jurgen Klopp’s future. Instead, he believes the German will ride out the current storm that has seen the Merseyside outfit lose their last six home games.

But Johnson insists that when the time is right, Liverpool WILL come calling for their legendary former captain.

He said: “Gerrard will definitely be Liverpool’s next choice. He’s a one-off legend at the club and a legend of the game.

“He’s been fantastic at Rangers but he’s a very young manager and that seat at Liverpool is just different. It’s a global job where there are no hiding places and he won’t want a replica of Frank

Lampard’s situation when he went to Chelsea a bit too early.

“Klopp has been unbelievable so there is no chance that he won’t be there next season but Stevie will be the Liverpool manager one day. I wouldn’t start talking about that now just because they’ve lost a few.”

RANGERS defender Filip Helander reckons his team blew the rest of Scottish football away this season because of their remarkable consistency levels.

The Swedish star helped the Ibrox outfit win their first topflight title in 10 years and is now preparing for tonight’s Europa

League last-16 showdown with Slavia Prague.

Steven Gerrard’s men are still unbeaten in the league and Helander said: “The defence takes pride in clean sheets.

“Our success has been down to our levels of consistency because we have never really been very bad in any match. And at the same time we have played very well in plenty of matches.

“We are all walking about with a smile on our faces.

“Considering everything the club went through, to get back to the top is huge for everyone. For us, the players, but above all the fans. I won two tiles with Malmo but I rate this one very highly because winning something abroad is a bit special.

“This will be a tough game against Slavia but we have performed well in Europe so far and we need to continue to do so if we want to go as far as possible.”
