It played out in full view of residents in scores of flats in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, after the attacker loudly and repeatedly baited his enemy, challenging him to “come out to play”. The ensuing swordfight left James Quinn, 30, who was previously jailed for attempted murder, with serious facial and hand injuries. Police are still hunting the attacker, who is thought to be a previous partner of Quinn’s girlfriend. A video shows the man approaching a property in Greenhill Road, Rutherglen, before speaking to Quinn’s girlfriend and demanding that Quinn comes out to face him. Brandishing a large knife, the man shouts: “Sh***bag, Castlemilk boys in the area. “Come out, come out to play, old boy. I’m going to murder him. Come out and play chicken. Come on then, swordfight.”

The thug says to Quinn’s girlfriend, “I’m not having this any more”, to which she screams: “It’s you that’s keeping it going.”

When Quinn comes out, the men take the battle into the middle of the street, swinging the large blades at each other furiously, landing potentially deadly blows.

The original attacker then runs off towards Mill Road and Quinn retreats into his flat.

Both men are understood to have been seriously hurt during the fight and photographs of the original assailant’s head wound have been circulated on social media. He is understood to have gone to hospital then discharged himself after treatment.
