New Maserati MC20 supercar is red-hot in the snow

-

FORGET Dancing On Ice, Maserati has been putting on a gripping show by trialling its new MC20 supercar in the snow.

The stylish Italian marque’s forthcoming flying machine has undergone intensive cold-weather testing on the snowcovered roads of the Valtellina and at the Ghiacciodromo Livigno, the country’s most notable snow and ice circuit.

The super sports car was tested to evaluate the low-temperature performance of the engine, battery, suspension and brakes, as well as the climate control system and its handling on cold and low-grip asphalt surfaces.

And Maserati say the extreme conditions have not stopped the new MC20, claiming they “enhanced the opposing personalities of this car, born from the brand’s racing DNA but designed for series production”. The rear-wheel-drive supercar, with a kerb weight of less than 1500kg, is powered by a groundbreaking twin-turbo V6 engine that makes use of F1-derived technologies to develop 630hp.

Mated to an eight-speed automatic, it results in a breathtaking performance, with the MC20 hitting 62mph in just 2.9 seconds and redlining at a speed in excess of 200mph.

Those on board can also enjoy a variety of drive modes to suit different needs as well as two 10in screens – one for the cockpit and the other for the infotainment system.

A full range of connectivity in the two-seater cabin, accessed through butterfly doors, includes intelligent sat nav, Alexa and a wi-fi hotspot.

Priced from just north of £187,000, the new Maserati flagship is expected to arrive in the UK soon.
