Lennon: It just wasn’t our season

-

month. Lennon oversaw the capitulation of the club’s 10-in-a-row dream and Rangers have since wrapped up the title at their rivals’ expense.

But the former Hoops captain, the only man in the club’s history to win the Treble as a player and manager, has nothing but fond memories.

The 49-year-old said: “I had a brilliant time at Celtic. I absolutely loved it.

“It just wasn’t our season this season. The players have achieved some incredible things over the past six years.

“I’ve had a bit of a break. I’ve stayed in the house like everybody else but I’m sure I’ll get the itch sooner rather than later.

“I’ve had 20 years as player, coach and manager so yes Celtic are a huge part of my life.”

With the Old Firm clash now just nine days away, Ross County manager John Hughes believes his old team should give the newly-crowned champions a guard of honour.

Hughes knows it will be a hard one for the Hoops to stomach at Celtic Park.

But he reckons they should use it as motivation to become the first team to topple Steven Gerrard’s side in the league.

Yogi said: “Rangers have been outstanding and there should be a guard of honour – it’s an unwritten rule.

“The next team have to take their medicine, take it on the chin. Rangers have been outstanding. There has been no noise coming out of there and too much coming out of Celtic.

“Not signing a goalkeeper, Leigh Griffiths and all that – too much noise.

“Now the challenge for them is to get it back.

“But sometimes in sport you have to just tip your hat, say they have raised the bar and focus on going out to beat them.”
