Judy: Being a gran is one of life’s joys

- BY STUART MacDONALD

JUDY Murray has said she will need to wait until the end of lockdown to get her first cuddle with son Andy’s new baby.

The Scots tennis star and his wife Kim welcomed their fourth child into the world last week.

Judy said she was delighted at the new arrival because she loves being a “granny”.

However, coronavirus travel restrictions mean she is stuck at her home near Dunblane, Perthshire, while her new grandchild is with his parents in the south of England.

Tennis coach Judy, 61, said: “Being a granny is one of the greatest joys in life, so I’m delighted there’s another little baby to spoil.

“But I’ll have to wait for lockdown to end to get my first cuddle.”

SCOTLAND’S first trained paramedic has come out of retirement to help the fight against coronavirus.

Bill Mason, 64, left the job in 2011 but offered his experience after the pandemic struck.

Now supervising at a Mobile Testing Unit, Bill said: “When Covid-19 became a pandemic, I volunteered to help and was signed up to work as a supervisor with the Mobile Testing Units, which are operated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“I have made the commitment to stay until things improve and get back to some kind of normality.”

Bill, who lives in Kirkcaldy with wife Anne, a retired nurse, qualified as a paramedic in Glasgow in 1986. He worked on ambulances in the city, Edinburgh and Dundee and went on to train others in Scotland, Newcastle and Northern Ireland.

Scottish Ambulance Service events general manager Pat O’Meara hailed Bill’s return as “testament to his dedication”.
