Pundits tip Wilder for Celts
Ex-Celts back Irish legend
CHRIS WILDER has been backed to make a swift return to football as rumours link him to the vacancy at Celtic were discussed on TV.
Sheffield United didn’t fare any better after Wilder’s departure as they crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Leicester City under former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom, who has stepped in as caretaker.
That prompted reflection from the Sky Sports’ Super Sunday team who were unanimous in their praise of the former Blades boss.
Pundit Andy Hinchcliffe is hopeful Wilder remains in British football – and name-dropped Parkhead as a potential landing spot.
He said: “I certainly hope he stays in football. I hope he stays in the British game.
“Celtic, there’s been rumours of him going up there. He’s too good a man, he’s too good a coach, for football to not have him somewhere.
“He will not be short of offers, and football in this country really does need Chris Wilder – so let’s hope he’s back soon.”
Jamie Redknapp insisted Wilder – who led the Blades to a ninthplaced Premier League finish last season before things went wrong for the relegation favourites this term – will “bounce back” in his next role.
And with Celtic still seeking a permanent manager after Neil Lennon’s exit, he reckons Wilder’s name should be high up on any club’s shortlist.
He said: “If I was an owner right now and I’m thinking of a manager to play the right way and get the best out of players, Chris would be right on top of my list.”
