Stand-in Murray makes it count 1

KENNY MacDONALD AT PALMERSTON PARK INNES MURRAY fired a fine goal and was booked in a late bust-up that prompted two red cards for Queens.

And he wasn’t even supposed to start the game – until Alloa teammate Liam Dick took unwell on the trip to Dumfries.

Murray said: “Liam wasn’t feeling well on the way through, so after 10 minutes in the warm-up our assistant Paddy Connolly came up to me and said it looked like I’d probably be starting.

“It was good to score and Innes Cameron laid it on a plate for me.”

Queens took the lead in 11 minutes with a sizzling 10-yard volley by Dapo Mebude before Murray levelled by rifling a back post shot into the roof of the net nine minutes later.

The Doonhamers edged 2-1 in front with a powerful header from Euan East.

Wasps levelled again with a spectacular shot from Lee Connelly into the top corner.

Then in stoppage time Ayo Obileye was shown a straight red card for a clumsy tackle on Ray Grant.

Wasps were awarded a penalty in 53 minutes when Wullie Gibson was unfortunate to see the ball bounce up against his arm

Alloa skipper Andy Graham’s spot-kick was smothered by keeper Rohan Ferguson but supersub Liam Buchanan clinched the points with a rocket shot five minutes after replacing Connolly.

Murray and Rhys McCabe then clashed at a throw-in. Ref Greg Aitken flashed a straight red at McCabe, a yellow for Murray then another red for raging boss Allan Johnston.

Seething Queens No.2 Sandy Clark said of the ref’s decisions: “They had a big effect. I think he made some mistakes.

“We didn’t start well but managed to score two goals and on the balance of play deserved at least a point.”
