Celtic 3 have pro-IRA shirt rap reinstated
THREE Celtic fans have had their convictions reinstated for wearing pro-IRA T-shirts at a match.
Martin MacAulay, Daniel Ward and Ryan Walker went to a Celtic v Linfield match in shirts emblazoned with a head wearing a black beret, sunglasses and a camouflage scarf covering the mouth.
Police at the July 2017 Champions League match believed the image had links to the IRA and arrested them.
The trio went on trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court in February 2020 and were convicted of breach of the peace at the game. But they had their convictions quashed in November 2020 at the Sheriff Appeal Court.
But now the Court of Criminal Appeal has ordered the convictions to be reinstated after it heard the T-shirt image was so obviously representative of the IRA the Crown didn’t need to corroborate it.
TRIBUTES have been paid to trade union “giant” Alex McLuckie, who has died aged 69.
The dad of three served the GMB from shopfloor to high office for 53 years.
A time-served wood machinist, Alex began his working life at Alexander’s in Camelon, Falkirk.
A member of Grangemouth 583 Branch, he eventually became senior organiser at Fountain House in Glasgow.
He was noted for his fight for equal pay for machinists at Alexander’s.
The GMB said: “His union legacy is distinguished and indisputable. As one friend remarked on Alex’s passing, ‘Just a wee guy, but a giant in the union movement’. You did good, comrade, and we’ll miss you.”
