I DITCHED FAST FOOD AND SHED 11ST

Spent £4000 a year on eating habit

- BY LUCY NOTARANTONIO

A FAST food addict has dropped a whopping 11st after ditching his £4000a-year takeaway addiction.

Martin Byran, 32, was given a death sentence by his GP, who urged him to lose weight or face serious consequences.

Martin, from Glasgow, was prediabetic and at risk of heart disease when he reached 27 stone.

By last January, Martin, who is now a diet consultant, lost 11st. He has also saved more than £4000 after ditching his £90 per week fast food addiction. Martin said: “My bad eating habits spiralled out of control when I lost my mum Margaret McMaster aged 42.

“I didn’t realise at the time but I used food as a coping mechanism.

“Food was the only way for me to find comfort – I was in a very dark place.

“It wasn’t until the doctor said my blood sugars were really high. I’d seen stories about people losing their limbs to diabetes and I didn’t want that to happen to me.”

Martin fell into the super obese category because his BMI was 50. He wore XXXXL clothing and he had a 56in waist. But in February 2019, he stopped eating takeaways for breakfast, lunch and dinner and signed up for The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan.

He now weighs 15st 11lb and couldn’t be happier.

Martin said: “I used to eat a meal deal for breakfast followed by a McDonald’s or an Chinese buffet for lunch. I would then either have a microwave meal or a Domino’s.

“Krispy Kremes were the joy of my life – I could eat a whole box of 12 in one sitting.

“I spent a minimum of £90 per week on food and a maximum of £150. It was shocking.

“But now I am full of energy and love life. My life has completely changed for the better. I am a new man.”
