Grim find in cop hunt for missing mum and her tot
POLICE searching for missing mum Bennylyn Burke, 25, and her two-year old daughter Jellica have recovered two bodies.
They were found in a house at Troon Avenue, Dundee yesterday.
Formal identification has yet to take place but police said relatives of Bennylyn have been informed.
Post mortems will take place to establish the causes of death. Det Supt Graeme Mackie, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “This is a significant development in what has been a particularly challenging enquiry for everyone involved.”
Bennylyn and her two children had been reported missing in Gloucestershire on March 1. Police arrived at the house in Dundee on March 5 and three days later Andrew Innes, 50, appeared at the city’s sheriff court.
He is accused of bludgeoning Bennylyn to death with a hammer and murdering Jellica at his home by unknown means.
The second missing child has been traced.
Innes made no plea and was committed for trial.
KEIR Starmer has promised to “sweat blood” to help Anas Sarwar improve Scottish Labour’s results in the elections.
He said Sarwar’s “laser-like focus” on economic recovery over the “constitutional obsession” of the SNP and Tories would pay dividends.
Starmer arrived in Scotland yesterday as another poll showed Labour lagging behind the Tories and with less than half the support enjoyed by the SNP.
With Labour trailing Boris Johnson in UK polling and stuck in third place behind the Tories in Scottish voting intentions, the Labour leader was frank about the problems they face.
He said: “There’s a challenge in Scotland, that’s obvious. But we have a new leader, a fantastic new leader in Anas.
“People have noticed that and some of the polls now show that Anas is the most recognised opposition leader in Scotland.”
“We’ve got to fight for every vote in these elections. I’m pleased there’s been some reflection of that in the polls, but there’s a long way to go.”
