FERGIE STILL MAKES GREAT SIGNINGS

Sir Alex personally writes hundreds of Xmas cards

- BY RECORD REPORTER

SIR Alex Ferguson takes the time to write hundreds of personal Christmas cards, says pal Eamonn Holmes. The TV presenter recalls asking the legendary Manchester United manager, 79: “Does your wife not do those, your secretary not do those, does somebody not do those?” Holmes added: “And he said, ‘No, I do those myself ’.

“And I totally believe him. Those little personal touches, they count.”

And he revealed the exManchester United boss can memorise all their addresses.

He said: “Fergie’s brilliant because he’s got an amazing memory, an amazing brain, and he’ll come to me and say, ‘Do you still live at’, and then he gives you the address.

“Sir Alex Ferguson remembers people’s names, sends you Christmas cards, it’s really that personal touch with people.”

Eamonn, 61, said when he moved home, he thought Sir Alex would forget his annual festive greeting. But the 79-yearold insisted on finding out where his pal had moved to and sent the hand-written card.

Describing some of the nicest people he has met in showbiz, Eamonn told Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To podcast: “I remember how nice Pierce Brosnan was, just a friendly gorgeous man, lovely. I remember how nice Robin Williams was, I remember how nice John Travolta was, I remember how nice Tom Hanks was. “Usually the bigger they are, the nicer they are. “The nicest man I met in show business – it was Roger Moore.”

THE devastated mum of a student who took her own life after abuse by her ex-boyfriend says she hopes her story can help change people’s behaviour. Law student Emily Drouet, 18, was found dead in her halls of residence at Aberdeen University in March 2016. Angus Milligan was later convicted of physically and verbally abusing her and expelled from the university but a sheriff said he was powerless to impose a custodial sentence. Emily’s mum Fiona set up the EmilyTest charity “to improve prevention, intervention and support” around gender-based violence.

Five years to the day from Emily’s death, Fiona said attitudes were changing but awareness needs to be raised about violence against women.

She told the Record: “We have been reliving every moment and it has just been horrendous.

“My husband and I went for a walk last night and we just cried the entire way remembering all that had happened to Emily. I really hope that cases like hers and Sarah Everard do start a conversation in people’s minds and it can be difficult because it takes people out of their comfort zone.

“There are young women losing their lives and we just have to talk about it.

“It is so important that women like my daughter and Sarah Everard didn’t lose their lives in vain – that would be the most tragic thing of all if they had died for nothing.”
