Certainly that was the vibe on your favourite phone-in as Rangers fans fired back.

David McLennan kicked it all off with this email: “He refers to Rangers’ title win as ‘their tainted training game title’. No, Gordon – Rangers won their title on the park fair and square. A tainted title is one your team won last season where they were awarded it when they were 13 points ahead.

“Celtic had eight games to play, Rangers had nine to play and with two Old Firm games left Rangers could have cut Celtic’s lead to four points. We will never know how last season’s title race would have ended as it wasn’t allowed to conclude.”

Dave Finnie pitched in on a similar theme, saying: “Interestin­g comment from Gordon in Ayr, regarding this being a tainted ‘training game’ title. Maybe if his team hadn’t approached most games like they were only training then they might have mustered a challenge. Or would he prefer Rangers were awarded the title by Zoom instead?”

Steve Macleod, Wokingham, said: “I had to chuckle at Gordon’s contention that Celtic’s crowd would have helped them. I’d have given my eye teeth to sit back, relax with a big box of popcorn and enjoy their rousing appreciati­on of Duffy, Barkas, Ajeti et al’s weekly comedic interpreta­tion of a game called football.”
