QUOTE OF THE DAY

-

‘Messi and Ronaldo are past their best and all they are good for now is scoring goals for Mickey Mouse teams in Italy and Spain’ have a bigger squad, have a better squad. This is one big banana skin for the champions on Sunday.”

On the Scotland front, Ronnie Swan, Lochee, is under whelmed by the decision to bring Che Adams into the international fold.

He said: “I thought we had seen the back of foreigners for the Scotland team getting picked in front of actual Scots.

“I give you Oli McBurnie (English) and Che Adams (English). My miniscule bit of interest has now gone forever and I wouldn’t take a free ticket to Wembley. P.S don’t forget Lyndon Dykes (Aussie). Yawn.”

John Scott, Grassmoor, has reservations about the latest Atlantic League proposals.

He said: “Yes, it’s all very exciting thinking about our top clubs playing in an Atlantic League but something fails me. How do you initially accommodate an 18-team league? Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Scotland have similar populations so how can we all have five clubs entering?

“How about Sweden who have a population of 10million? It can only work with two leagues but that will dilute any proposed income.

“When the inevitable European League starts up, what’s to stop Rangers and Celtic leaving to replace England’s biggest clubs in a revamped English Premier League? Just look to Jean-Marc Bosman for a sad example of where football can lead you.”

Finally, Alan Lough, Dunbar, claimed: “It’s no big deal that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo aren’t in the Champions League quarter-finals.

“Both players are long past their best and all they are good for now is scoring against Mickey Mouse teams in Spain and Italy. There are still players in the competition who are better anyway, such as Robert Lewandowski.”
