One sick puppy

Dealer in dying dogs has fascination with shotguns, knuckle dusters & machetes

SICK puppy trader Tom Mongan’s true colours are shown on social media accounts revealing a sinister fascination with violence.

The Irishman and a network of accomplices have flooded Scotland with sick puppies – many of which have died in agony of diseases like parvovirus and giardia.

When one buyer investigated the man who sold her a sick pup, she was shocked to see a Facebook account in Mongan’s name and with his photos displaying images of shotguns, knuckle dusters and machetes.

After the Record exposed Mongan and wife Ellie as key players in the puppy trafficking operation, we were inundated with reports of pups being sold in terrible health, snatched from their mothers too young.

Pups were sold in rented accommodation or driven to people’s homes, often covered in filth and with fake papers.

The animal lover who contacted us said: “We purchased a pup from him and thankfully he is still with us but he came with fake papers for his vaccine and microchip.

“When I looked into the person I was buying from, I found all this nasty stuff with knives and shotguns.

“What decent person would post that on social media? The name and the photo matched the one in the Record.

Another buyer, from Paisley, also commented on the “other side” of Mongan, saying: “He presented himself as a dog lover whose own pet had a litter he wanted to find good homes for.

“He set up in a rented flat with hardly any furniture then made up a story about how the mum was aggressive around people when her pups were there.

“The dog we got was filthy, dehydrated and had terrible worms. If we didn’t get a vet right away she would have died.

“As soon as he sold us the pup he refused to take our calls and washed his hands of us.”

Another pet buyer told how their pup, Bella, was 800g in weight instead of 2kg. He said:

“We were told her breed was Pomeranian but we doubt this is the case. I recognised the guy in the Record, Tom Mongan, as the man who sold us Bella.

“We had to take her to the vet. She was consumed with worms and had fleas. A few days later she was still passing blood in her stools. A sample sent off to the lab told us she had giardia – a parasitic infection.”

The Record previously told how Scots had been saddled with huge vet bills on top of having to deal with the heartbreak of watching their pups die in agony. After the Record published photos of the Mongans we were contacted by Ellie.

She said the woman photographed was not her. She then changed her mind but claimed she had never sold a puppy.

Ellie also claimed the man in the photo wasn’t Tom Mongan but changed her mind again and admitted it was – but that Tom had passed away. When we tried to contact Mongan on a number he used to sell dogs, the phone was turned off.
