RIDING STORM OUT

- BY GARRY OWEN

STORM NELSON (2.10) should blow away his rivals for local handler Sandy Thomson at Kelso.

The hurdler defied a long absence when routing First Class Return on debut for his yard at Ayr this month.

The gelding is still on an attractive mark so ought to shrug off an 11lb hike under in-form Ryan Mania.

BELLANEY GEM (2.40) can sparkle for Antrim handler Stuart Crawford in the mares’ hurdle. The eight-year-old put in a respectable shift when fourth to Hilltop Supreme at Fairyhouse in January.

That was a fairly strong race so this consistent type should strike in slightly calmer waters.

GOLAN CLOUD (3.40) can soar for Jennie Candlish in the Racing TV Handicap Hurdle.

An easy winner here this time last year, the gelding ran well again when a close third to Cudgel at Hexham. The eight-year-old didn’t get home over near enough three miles that day in December so should bounce back down in trip.

Tim Vaughan’s LE MILOS (4.10) looks a cut above in the LCS Joinery Handicap Chase.

The six-year-old opened his account over fences by hacking up from Eragon De Chanay at Fontwell last month.

The gelding is unexposed in this sphere so can make light of a 6lb hike. SLAINTE MHOR (4.40) looks poised to maintain Lucinda Russell’s decent run in the novices’ chase.

Outbattling King Of Fashion at Ayr was a personal best over fences and the sevenyear-old should follow up in another strong contest.

DAMIENS DILEMMA (5.10) can shade the conditionals’ chase for Stuart Coltherd.

The veteran caught the eye when third behind Westend Theatre in hotter company at Newcastle and still looks fairly treated for the Selkirk trainer. ROBIN DES SMOKE (1.45) can extend Richard Phillips’ winning streak at Plumpton.

The mare ought to build on her excellent third behind Hunny Moon on her timber debut at Wetherby.

DARKEST DAY (4.20) looks set to give Gary Moore more glory here in the two-miler.

The gelding can open his account over timber with a repeat of his third to Mr Jack at this track in January.
